Erika Leigh Gordon

About

Erika Leigh Gordon is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She received her BFA in Painting with a concentration in Art History from the University of Hartford, where she studied from 2012 to 2016. In 2025, she graduated with a master’s degree in Art Education. Gordon’s work consists of abstract representations of landscapes, with a primary focus on water as both subject and metaphor.

Her paintings explore how water appears at specific times of day, paying close attention to shifts in light, color, and reflection. Each work is created using a carefully selected color palette intended to evoke emotion and memory, allowing viewers to connect their own experiences to the imagery. Rather than depicting a literal place, Gordon’s paintings suggest moments of stillness and transition.

Water is a deeply personal subject for Gordon. While she does not represent herself within it, she relates to the sensation it provides—an experience of weightlessness when observing its surface. Through abstraction, her work invites contemplation, calm, and emotional resonance.
